We Were Here Luminaria Project [Work In Progress]
An extension to Left Behind, Kerry Payne’s latest photographic project "We Were Here" celebrates and honors the stories and lives of those impacted by suicide, and those we have loved and lost. She lost her own father to suicide in 2001 and has been passionate in her mission to get closer to a world without suicide, since.
For the past five years Kerry has photographed The Overnight walks for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Each year as many as 3,000 people, all of whom have been touched by suicide, walk 18 miles, from dusk till dawn -- "Out of The Darkness", to raise both funds and awareness for suicide prevention.
In 2014 Kerry, together with the AFSP, invited Overnight participants to be a part of 'We Were Here' and pay tribute to the reason they walk, by donating their decorated Luminaria to Kerry to be used to raise awareness around suicide prevention and surviving loss through suicide.
‘We Were Here’ will become a book and a traveling exhibition featuring these decorated Luminaria bags. Net proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
